Viva Beauty Academy · Edmonton Beauty Guide
Choosing permanent makeup is personal. It is not simply about age, following a trend or wanting to stop wearing makeup. It can be about feeling like yourself, enjoying your reflection and finding a beauty routine that fits your life.
At Viva Beauty Academy in West Edmonton, my starting point is your preference: what you enjoy about makeup, what feels difficult and how much definition looks right to you.
For people who love wearing makeup
Some people enjoy applying makeup at every stage of life. Drawing their brows, adding lipstick or defining their eyes is a familiar ritual that makes their look feel complete. Permanent makeup does not have to replace that pleasure.
A softly defined brow, a subtle lash-line enhancement or a gentle lip tint can provide a starting point. You can still choose a brighter lipstick or a more dressed-up look when you want to. The goal is to support your style, rather than decide it for you.
For people who prefer a simpler routine
Others would rather spend less time drawing the same shape each morning. Work, family, an active lifestyle or a preference for minimal makeup can make a little lasting definition appealing.
That does not mean everyone needs a complete brow, lip and eyeliner treatment. Sometimes one carefully chosen area is enough. A consultation helps us decide whether permanent makeup is appropriate and which area would make the most meaningful difference to your routine.
When applying fine lines becomes more difficult
A person can still love makeup even when seeing a fine line in the mirror or keeping a steady hand becomes harder. Poor eyesight or reduced hand steadiness can make precise application challenging. Permanent makeup may be an option for some people, after an individual suitability assessment.
Brows may also look sparser or less defined than they once did. The aim is not automatically to create a darker, stronger brow. It may be to add soft structure that works with your existing hairs, facial proportions and preferred level of definition.
Lips and eyes: definition without a heavy outline
If your natural lip edge or colour looks less distinct to you, lip blush can be discussed as a way to add the appearance of colour and definition within your natural lip border. It does not physically add volume or replace lost tissue.
For the eyes, permanent eyeliner can range from a discreet lash-line effect to more visible definition. Your eye shape, skin and everyday makeup preferences guide the discussion. A style that suits one person may not suit another.
Younger adults have individual reasons, too
You do not need to reach a certain age to prefer a simpler routine or want more defined brows. However, a long-lasting treatment deserves more thought than a temporary beauty trend. Your preferences may change, so a conservative shape and realistic expectations matter.
The question is not “What is everyone getting?” It is “Would this suit my skin, my features and the way I want to look?” Choosing not to have a procedure is also a valid outcome of a consultation.
Modern permanent makeup can look soft and natural
Permanent makeup does not have to look like a solid, sharply outlined block of colour. My approach focuses on individual design and a soft visual result: powder or ombré brows for a shaded effect, and machine hair strokes or nano brows for a hair-like appearance where suitable.
These machine techniques are different from manual microblading. Neither a technique name nor a pigment label guarantees a particular result. Skin assessment, design, application and healing all matter. Fresh work can look more pronounced than healed work, so healed examples are an important part of understanding the intended finish.
Does it disappear after a year?
Permanent makeup is a form of cosmetic tattooing. It can soften and fade over time, but it should not be chosen on the promise that it will completely disappear after one year. Pigment can remain visible for much longer, and removal can be difficult.
Some formulations use mineral pigments, but “mineral” alone does not tell us how long a result will last or guarantee safety. Pigment formulation, application, skin and exposure all affect the outcome. We discuss maintenance and the possibility of residual colour before treatment, rather than promise a fixed expiry date.
Start with a conversation about you
Bring the makeup you normally wear, examples you like and anything you are worried about. We can discuss shape, colour, skin suitability, healing and aftercare before you decide. Permanent makeup involves breaking the skin and carries risks, including infection, allergy and scarring; relevant health concerns should be discussed with your healthcare professional.
You deserve to understand the choices and feel comfortable with the plan. Whether you want a softer brow, more visible lip colour or gentle eye definition, the starting point is the same: a look that feels like you.
